Finding Time
December 30, 2010
Time management! When do you find time to draw! I’m not getting paid to draw this comic. I have a family and a full time job. Other painting jobs on the side that sometimes comes up. So when do I find time to draw!!??
You find the time!!! I have no idea who said it but it’s true! I am always looking for just a few moments to draw. Here are a few things that I am doing to be productive.
- carry a sketchbook. Instead of drawing on loose paper that tends to get damaged if it leaves the drawing table. However a good sketchbook will protect the pages if you drop it in a backpack!
-public transit … Yes I’m not joking! I take the train everywhere. While I’m on The train it gives me the chance to instead of focusing on the road I can focus on getting a few pages drawn!
- lunch time! I don’t know about you but when my job gets stressful there is nothing better then drawing durning my lunch! And a fight scene is a great way of venting!
- Fight off the urge to do it yourself!! Now I have to admit when it comes to building websites I’m like that old guy at the end of your block who is always working on his car. I love tinkering with websites, adjusting meta tags, altering images. But I have to think “is it worth The time??” find a way to have your comic hosted on a site that does the coding for you. After all you could be spending that time drawing instead of hunching over a php for jugheads book!
-set aside time! This one is perhaps the hardest of all. Next Tuesday mark off on your calendar that you are working on the comic! Let others know that you are working on the comic and do not want to be disturbed. In addition make sure the night before that all other tasks you may have are done. Laundry, house work, homework. This way you will not be distracted by the really important things!
- Set goals .. I am going to finish chapter 3 by Jan 4th ready to be posted (oh shit!!! I said that out loud)
- Be accountable for your goals let others know those goals so they kick your ass if they are not done!
